BGMI Ban Was Not an “Immediate Action” by the Indian Government

Battlegrounds Mobile India was banned under section 69A of the IT act by the Indian government. The sudden ban has shattered the Indian gaming community as it was witnessing the peak of BGMI esports in recent times. The BGMI ban has been a major setback for all stakeholders, tournament organizers, and esports teams. According to Skyesports CEO Shiva Nandy, the Indian government’s move to ban BGMI is not an immediate action and things have been in process for almost five months.

Krafton received an interim notice from the Indian government seven days prior to the ban

Skyesports CEO Shiva Nandy in his recent Instagram story revealed that an interim notice was sent to Krafton headquarters by the Indian government seven days prior to the BGMI ban. The ban was allegedly not a sudden action from the government with the process having started five months earlier. Nandy further mentioned that he got the hint regarding the BGMI ban two days before the game got removed from the Indian Play Store and App Store. As a result, he immediately stopped all the major transactions related to the upcoming Skyesports League LAN event in Delhi.

Shiva Nandy dropped a cryptic hint for the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) fans regarding the game’s potential unban.

“According to sources, TikTok is all set to make a comeback. In that case, BGMI will be back 100%. Hopefully, if everything goes well, there will be independence soon.” said Nandy.

This statement from Skyesports’ CEO indicates that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) might make its comeback anywhere around 15 August 2022. However, there is no official statement from Krafton on when the game will be unbanned and make its way to the Indian Play Store and App Store. Despite some positive hints from prominent esports personalities, the Indian gaming community has its fingers crossed.

Professional BGMI esports players have been affected the most after the BGMI ban. The years of grinding are at stake because of the uncertainty around the game’s comeback. While some players have started to play New State Mobile, a significant portion of them are still waiting for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

Apart from the ongoing tournaments, the registrations for Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2022 which were scheduled to kick start on 28 July 2022 have been put on hold. According to official BGMI casters, Krafton was planning to host a LAN event for the BGIS 2022 grand finals with the audience being allowed at the venue.
