Cyberpunk 2077 Next-Gen Version May Not Release in 2021, Along With Witcher 3 Complete Edition
Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen console version is on track to release in late 2021, but developer CD Projekt Red has revealed that they’re not fully certain about whether they’ll be able to stick to its announced window of release. The news comes from CDPR’s H1 2021 shareholders’ QnA session.
“The target is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year,” said Michał Nowakowski, SVP of business development (via VGC). “At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”
The game recently received patch 1.3 which added some free DLC items as well as stability and performance fixes. CD Projekt Red also revealed during its patch 1.3 live stream that they consider the game stable enough to now add new items and features going forward.
As for the company’s other next-gen console release for the year, The Witcher 3 Complete Edition, it’s a similar story although that version is being outsourced to Saber Interactive.
“With The Witcher 3, the situation is slightly different in the way that this is being tackled by the external team mainly, which is Saber Interactive, the company that we have worked with before on Switch and also with updates in the past,” said Nowakowski.
“As with Cyberpunk 2077, our goal is to release that game still in late 2021. However, similarly, the development process is ongoing, and we cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change. But for the time being, we definitely are aiming with both titles for late 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific at this moment in time.”
Aside from the game’s next-gen version, it is also yet to receive its first expansion which as of now has been scheduled for 2022. On that, CD Projekt Red has committed almost a quarter of its staff to finishing the expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game runs on the new-gen consoles via backwards compatibility with a next-gen patch slated to arrive in the second half of 2021.
