Hideo Kojima Revealed What Inspired His New Action-Espionage Game – Flizzyy

Hideo Kojima recently took to YouTube to publish an all-new edition of HideoTube – the first episode in almost seven years. In this hour-long video, Kojima explains what inspired Physint, his all-new IP that’s going to push the boundaries of technology and gaming to create something truly cutting-edge.

Last month, Kojima announced the project during the PlayStation State of Play event. It was stressed that the fresh action-espionage title will ‘blur the boundaries between films and games’, and it’s being built in partnership with Sony Pictures. In the latest episode of HideoTube, Kojima revealed the emotional inspiration behind Physint.


We Asked, He’ll Deliver

In the video (which you can see below), Kojima stressed that a health scare in 2020 pushed him to almost give up on game development forever. The situation became so intense that the legendary creator wrote up a will, fearing for his condition. He said that it was at this point that he decided to make an action-espionage game, hoping ‘to never retire’.

Kojima went on to explain that he ‘challenged himself’ with Death Stranding, his first game away from Konami following his split with the firm in 2015. He said that ‘users all around the world, people have been asking me to create another Metal Gear and stuff like that’. That’s not going to happen any time soon – Kojima no longer has access to the rights or licenses for that label.

But nothing is stopping him from making his own action-espionage title.

That’s what Physint is all about. In the words of Kojima Productions, Physint will offer ‘near life-like graphics and a new take on interactive entertainment.’ Given that Kojima still needs to deliver Death Stranding 2 – and his recently-revealed game ‘OD’ – it could be several years before we see whispers of Physint.
