Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn Responds to BGMI ban
The Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was reportedly banned by the Indian government under section 69A of the IT Act. BGMI in the first week of July 2022 surpassed 100 million which made it India’s most popular battle royale game. The game was removed from the Indian Play Store and App Store on Thursday evening leaving the Indian gaming community shocked.
Krafton finally issued an official statement on the current situation, addressing BGMI players and fans:
Krafton through this statement has officially confirmed that they are in touch with the concerned authorities and that actions are underway to restore Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) to the Play Store and App Store. However, considering the amount of time it took for the developers to bring in BGMI after PUBG Mobile was banned, it could take quite a long time for the game to be available for Indian players.
The Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) suspension from Google Play Store and Apple App Store has put a break on the ongoing BGMI esports tournaments. The grand finals of the Rooter Invitational Series have been stuck in the midway due to the current status of BGMI. It has been rumored that if BGMI will not be unbanned, the remaining matches will be held in New State Mobile.
Godlike Esports player Abhijeet Harishchandra “GHATAK” Andhare had initially Tweeted that the ban was not permanent and was only temporary. However, he followed it up with Tweets that indicated doom and gloom for the game. But towards the end, he spoke about the possibility of the block being reversed with his latest being a retweet of the official statement from Krafton’s CEO which has given fans a ray of hope on BGMI’s comeback.
The effect of the BGMI ban was seen on Krafton’s share which took a massive hit and fell by 9% on Friday. However, things recovered quickly for the company as they witnessed a slight increase of 5.4% in market share on the same day.
