Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Could Get A New Cheaper Tier with Ads

Netflix has just started testing out its cheaper ad-supported tier and it seems Xbox plans to follow their lead. This is not the only newer tier they have been working on. Looking back, Microsoft recently announced a family plan for Xbox Game Pass in select countries. Coming back to the ad-supported tier, a thread from ResetEra, (via WindowsCentral) shared the initial details about the plan.

The post consists of a survey that was sent out to Xbox Game Pass Users. Through the survey, they were asked about their feelings towards a new addition to the tiers of Xbox Game Pass. The new tier would cost approximately $3 per month and will provide the users with a library of all Xbox first-party games (6 months after release) along with multiplayer access.

The only thing different with this plan is that gamers will have to sit through an advertisement before they start playing the game of their choice. If this news is true, then it will be a gamechanger for many Xbox Users. They will get almost all the benefits they already had for a fraction of the price.

Another point that makes all of this more believable is that Microsoft has a new patent for “providing personalized content for unintrusive online gaming experience”. Through their new patent, they will be able to determine when the player’s interaction with the game is least and provide them with ads at that time.

The method used will include identifying a location within the game environment to overlay content during a specific period. Players can expect the content to be displayed via an overlay video stream distinct from a gameplay stream. The patent will allow Xbox to push more ads through their new ad-supported tier.
