She implied that Shaikh was an outsider and called Hydari a ‘schoolgirl’ for her punctuality on set. These comments did not sit well with netizens, who harshly criticized her for making ‘rude and disrespectful’ remarks about her seniors. When questioned about the ‘insider-outsider’ narrative allegedly created from her interviews with Aditi Rao Hydari and Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin commented,

“This is something I’m not fully aware of. What I do know is that my interviews were taken out of context. Some of my co-stars have kindly spoken out to clarify this. I have a very cordial relationship with both Aditi and Sanjeeda. I wish people wouldn’t use 10-second clips out of context to define my relationship with them.”

In Heeramandi, Sharmin portrays Alamzeb, the younger daughter of Manisha Koirala’s character, Mallikajaan. Sharmin, the niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, debuted in acting with Malaal alongside Meezaan Jafri. She previously worked as an assistant director on films such as Mary Kom and Bajirao Mastani.

Heeramandi explores the pre-partition era red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore (present-day Pakistan). The series delves into the power dynamics among courtesans, Nawabs, and British officers during the Indian independence movement. The cast includes Sharmin Segal, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and many others. The series has recently been renewed for a second season and is available for streaming on Netflix.
