Fans of the popular anime franchise have eagerly waited for the film, which is based on the light novel series by Reki Kawahara. The film expands on the Aincrad arc from the original Sword Art Online series. This film is a sequel to Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night, which also released in India in February 2022.
Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night released in Japan in October 2022. It was initially set to release in September in Japanese cinemas, but the release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic there. Meanwhile, the film saw cinematic screenings across North America starting February 2023, and it already released in Pakistan on February 17, 2023.
The month of April will be a treat for anime fans in India as there will back-to-back anime film releases in cinemas. After the SAO film, Makoto Shinkai’s much-awaited film Suzume is set to release in India the following week.
