The trend of foreign esports organizations acquiring talents from the Philippines continues as the Malaysian team Todak announced the acquisition of three Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) pro players from the Philippines. One of the player imports was the former Bren Esports jungler Mujahid “Malik” Malik (also known as Lord Malik). The squad aims to compete in the upcoming Mobile legends Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) Season 11. Todak is yet to officially announce its full roster for the upcoming season.
The MPL MY Season 11 is set to kick off sometime in March 2023. However, Moonton is yet to reveal the exact date for the event. Rosters for the competing teams are also yet to be finalized.
Ex-Bren Esports talent Malik joins Malaysian team Todak
Through a Facebook post, one of Malaysia’s fan-favourite MLBB team, Todak, announced the acquisition of three Filipino talents for its roster. One of these talents is the former Bren Esports jungler Malik.
According to the post, Karl “Karl” Devosora is a former member of Phoenix Hiraya while Patrick “Lawtrick” Ciego is a former player of Mistah Esports. These two amateur standouts are looking to prove themselves in the Malaysian esports scene alongside Malik.
Malik played for the M2 World Champion, Bren Esports, during Season 8 and 9 before he was released from the squad. While the squad had lackluster performances in both seasons, Malik was able to showcase his expertise as an explosive assassin jungler.
Despite always qualifying for all M-Series events since the M1 World Championship, Todak has never won any world series trophies in the MLBB esports scene. With Filipino talents added to its arsenal, the fan-favourite Malaysian squad aims to turn things around.
It shall be most interesting to see how these Filipino talents impact Todak’s performance in the upcoming MPL MY Season 11 as it competes for a ticket to the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) 2023.
