Tomb Raider: Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics Join Forces for New Entry in the Series

The Tomb Raider franchise will see a major entry, thanks to Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics.

Amazon announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with video game developer Crystal Dynamics to develop a new Tomb Raider title. This will be available on multiple platforms, and Amazon Games will provide full support and publish the game globally.

Although the game is untitled for now, it will be a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that will feature the iconic character Lara Croft’s story.

The game will let players guide Croft through an environment “that rewards exploration and creativity,” with enemies and puzzles serving as challenges along the away.

The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and aims to be the “biggest, most expansive Tomb Raider game to date.” The game is still in the early stages of development, and more details will be revealed at a later date.

“Crystal Dynamics has an extraordinary opportunity following our acquisition by Embracer to redefine what a publishing relationship is for Tomb Raider,” said Scot Amos, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics. “Transformative is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games, we found a team that shares our creative vision, ambitions, and values for a Lara Croft universe across the spectrum of possibilities. They’re uniquely positioned to rewrite what publishing and development collaborations are, and we’re eager to forge this new path together, starting with building the biggest and best Tomb Raider game yet!”

Most recently, Amazon Games published Smilegate RPG’s Los Ark in North America, South America, and Europe. Crystal Dynamics has developed the Tomb Raider series since 2003, starting from Tomb Raider: Legend, which came out in 2006.
