True Rippers Win Pokemon UNITE Championship Season 1

Veteran esports tournament organizer, Indian Gaming League (IGL), had announced the Pokemon UNITE Championship Season 1 in October, featuring a total prize pool of INR 30,000 ($367 USD).

The tournament started with an open qualifier that ran from 30th October to 8th November and was followed by a league stage for which eight of the best teams from across the country were handed out direct invites.

After more than two weeks of grueling action, the grand finals of the Pokemon UNITE Championship Season 1 took place earlier today on 17th November, where True Rippers handed a clean ‘3-0’ defeat to Orgless 5 and walked away as the winners.

Pokemon UNITE Championship Season 1 crowns True Rippers as the champions

In the absence of popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) titles for mobile devices in India, like MLBB (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang) and League of Legends: Wild Rift, Pokemon UNITE has become a popular choice among the local playerbase and its competitive scene within the country is slowly taking shape.

With Skyesports announcing the Pokemon UNITE India Open 2022, bearing a massive total prize pool of INR 22,50,000 ($27,520 USD), it seems that the mobile title could become mainstream sooner than later. The grand finals is set to take place on LAN somewhere in Mumbai,

In the meantime, Indian Gaming League announced a grassroots level tournament for the mobile title, Pokemon UNITE Championship Season 1, attracting registrations from underdog teams who wanted to prove themselves by making it to the league stage and taking on the the top dogs.

16 slots were up for grabs with a few moving on to the league stage where the following eight teams were invited,

  1. Marcos Gaming

  2. True Rippers

  3. Team Revenant

  4. Team S8UL

  5. Gods Reign

  6. Chemin Esports

  7. Team FS

  8. Orgless 5

As the main stage moved ahead only two teams remained to face off in the best-of-five grand finals, True Rippers and Orgless 5. Unfortunately, Orgless 5 could not win a single game and were swept clean by True Rippers, who won three matches in a row and walked away as the champions along with lion’s share of the total prize pool.
