V33Wise hiatus was essential to prevent the team from falling out, says Tryke
Blacklist International is one of the most impressive teams in the MLBB esports scene. The team has achieved many victories in various esports events including a back-to-back championship title in the MPL PH Season 7 and 8. Fans were looking forward to the team’s three-peat victory in Season 9. However, during the off-season, the team announced that both of its iconic players OhMyV33NUS and Wise had decided to skip one season and take a short break from playing competitively.
Shortly after its major comeback victory in the league, during a post-match press conference, the team’s CEO explained why the V33Wise duo’s brief hiatus was important for the team, even if it cost them the Season 9 title.
“For me, personally, when we decided to rest V33Wise during Season 9, I feel it was a pivotal decision for the whole team because I’ve been in esports for a long time now and I’ve seen teams fail because there is always a certain cap to the pressure,” explained Tryke.
He further elaborated by sharing his experience during his days being a DOTA 2 shoutcaster.
“There’s always a certain cap to the arguments that happen in the day-to-day. It’s really different, just like my DOTA 2 experience, I saw a lot of teams spearheading after winning and the pressure is high when entering a new season, then suddenly losing and a fallout ensues before eventually splitting up,” Tryke said.
This was the reason for the V33Wise duo to go easy on their competitive career and take a short break to unwind from the pressure and stress.
“So in a way, our foresight, when we talked to them, was maybe this is the perfect time in Season 9 [to take a break] because they really needed it so that everybody is ready to go again for another season and going to M4 [World Championship],” said the Blacklist International CEO.
“Our goal was really a back-to-back World Championship, that’s personally what I see as a direction for them,” Tryke added.
The short break for the V33Wise duo paid off significantly as the team was able to secure even more achievements such as winning the 31st Southeast Asia (SEA) Games Gold Medal under the Sibol team of the Philippines and the MPL PH Season 10 title.
