Yawi Still Determined to Claim M4 World Championship Title Despite Controversies

The star roamer of ECHO, Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera was put in the hot seat after allegations of him cheating on his girlfriend surfaced on social media. However, the pro player was unfazed by this controversy and went on to spearhead his squad to a dominant victory over RSG Singapore (SG), in his world stage debut match, to close the group stage with a flawless 3-0 win streak and an upper bracket slot. According to Yawi, his focus is dead set on the M4 World Championship title and he does not want to let his teammates down.

After skipping two matches, Yawi is ready to face opponents in M4 World Championship

Fans were baffled when ECHO played its two starting matches in the group stage without its iconic roamer Yawi. Instead, the squad drafted its trusty veteran player Jaypee “Jaypee” Cruz against RRQ Hoshi and Occupy Thrones. While the results were beyond satisfactory, fans were still eagerly awaiting the iconic Chou specialist to step on to the world stage.

It was not until ECHO’s final match against RSG SG in the group stage that Yawi showed up as the team’s roamer. He even claimed the match MVP (Most Valuable Player) due to his overwhelming presence across the map and the team fights.

Through a post-match press conference, Yawi shared his thoughts on  the team’s decision to have him skip two of the Group Stage matches in the M4 World Championship.

“I understand that, of course, I don’t want to force myself to play, especially if my teammates are not comfortable, so I waited for them to be ok,” he said. “I also trust Jaypee a lot because he is indeed strong.”

For Yawi, being able to compete in the world series event is one of his biggest achievements and he does not want to let anything ruin it for him and his team, not even his recent issue.

“A lot has happened to us, especially to me. But, I’m still focused on M4 [World Championship]. I’m not looking for the MVP Yawi Still Determined to Claim M4 World Championship Title Despite Controversies, I just want to win,” he said.

“Since the beginning, it has been my dream to step on the world stage. And now, I’m super focused. Of course, I have to think about my team because we need to be the champion,” Yawi added.

ECHO shall face Team HAQ on the opening day of the M4 World Championship playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the squad will be able to continue its winning streak and win the championship title.
