Hellblade Director Tameem Antoniades Has Left Ninja Theory

During a recent preview for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Polygon noted the absence of Tameem Antoniades, and Xbox later confirmed to Polygon that Antoniades has left Ninja Theory.

The preview reports that an “Xbox spokesperson later confirmed to Polygon that he is no longer with the studio”. At this time, Xbox and Ninja Theory have not publicly issued an official statement about why they left.

Tameem Antoniades hasn’t addressed the shakeup either. Antoniades was one of the founders of Ninja Theory, helping establish the studio over 20 years ago. They directed other hits from the studio like DmC: Devil May Cry, and worked on titles as far back as Heavenly Sword.

Polygon notes that Tameem Antoniades worked on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 early on, though other creative leads currently have the reigns. Some of these creatives reportedly include Dan Attwell, Mark Slater-Tunstill, and David Garcia.

During the Xbox Developer Direct from last January, Xbox announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will launch on May 21st. Xbox Wire also confirmed that the anticipated sequel will be digital only.

It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Steam for $50. In the Xbox Wire post, Dom Matthews mentioned that Hellblade 2 would be “sold at a lower price to reflect the shorter length of our story”.

Tameem Antoniades was an excellent creative force at Ninja Theory, so hopefully they will promptly update fans on what their plans are going forward.
