Death Stranding was one of the most iconic games released on the PlayStation 4. From the creative mind of Hideo Kojima came this immersive, mysterious, and at times chilling game with an all-star cast and a deeply unique concept. It was a win with gamers the world over, so much so that a live-action adaptation is now in the works.
During the PlayStation State of Play event, Death Stranding 2 – which has been kept mostly under wraps – picked up a new trailer, a fresh subtitle, and a release window.
It’s officially called Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and it’s being released in 2025.
Down On The Beach
Death Stranding (2019) was bursting at the seams with innovative features, and judging from the all-new trailer released during the State of Play showcased, it looks like the follow-up title will be the same.
In the new trailer, we see some bizarre scenes – a character with a face mask made of hands, a hyper-realistic human encased in some kind of gory shell, and a baby burping up a miniature spaceship that seems to house Sam Bridges – Norman Reedus’ character – and other lead figures in the new game.

There’s a humorous ventriloquist dummy that hangs from the player character’s gear, a vast open world to be explored, and more opportunities to carry packages across vast distances through treacherous conditions. It’s all about expanding a network again, much like in the first game, but it’s in an entirely new location – one that seems even riskier and more detailed than ever before.
We see flash floods, horrific creatures, and avalanches, and learn about the constant threat of human extinction. There are new factions, fresh ways to explore the Chiral Network, and more BTs to fight and destroy. It’s just so bizarre – some robots talk like babies, there’s a bad guy who wields a guitar that shoots lightning (while looking like the Joker) and some of the character models and movements are so realistic they’re giving me the heebie-jeebies.
