Spine is Getting Film & TV Adaptations From Story Kitchen

An exclusive new report from Variety reveals that upcoming cyberpunk game Spine will be adapted into both film and TV, with Story Kitchen attached.

Nekki developed and published Spine, and only just announced the game a couple of weeks ago with a brief gameplay trailer. It showcased early footage of stylish, Gun fu-inspired action and movement in a cyberpunk world. Spine will be story-driven and cinematic, built in UE5.

Gamers are also likely to be familiar with Story Kitchen. Just last week, the production company announced that it will adapt indie darling Dredge into a live-action movie, too.

Today, Variety confirmed that ā€œNekki has teamed with Story Kitchen to develop potential adaptations of the game.ā€ Like Dredge, the original developers of Spine seem to be directly involved with the adaptations. So, that should help retain the essence of the game.

However, Dredge is already a hit, and ultimately earned multiple nominations at The Game Awards 2023. Itā€™s proven itself as a bankable IP, whereas Spine hasnā€™t launched yet. In fact, Spine doesnā€™t even have a release date or window at this time.

That suggests Story Kitchen has an enormous amount of confidence in Spineā€™s lore and the gameā€™s potential to succeed.

Thereā€™ll need to be a lot of mythology to explore if it justifies both film and TV adaptations. Spine will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Story Kitchen offered a joint statement to show their enthusiasm.

ā€œWhen we first learned of this upcoming game from Nekki, we lost our collective minds as Redline could not be more badass!ā€
