Onic Philippines (PH) proved they are a big threat in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) PH Season 13 by taking down the top contender, AP Bren, with a 2-0 clean sweep. This marks the first series loss for the reigning World Champion. With this well-deserved win, all eyes are on ONIC PH as they make their vie for a playoffs spot.
Through a post-match press conference, the team’s seasoned roamer Jomearie “Escalera” Santos shared how pressure affects him in a positive way. According to him, the added pressure he feels when facing strong teams keeps him focused on his goal of winning the MPL PH Season 13 championship title.
Escalera prefers playing under pressure
Securing victory against this season’s formidable frontrunner, AP Bren, stands as a crowning achievement for ONIC PH. As anticipation mounts for the long-awaited showdown against ECHO, who dealt them a setback in Week 1, fans eagerly await a redemption arc.
Discussing the looming pressure of the impending match, Escalera, the star roamer of ONIC PH, revealed his unwavering composure, stating that he thrives in such high-stakes scenarios.
“I like being under pressure. Back when we lost to ECHO, I didn’t feel any pressure so I wasn’t able to give my all. But the night before [the match against AP Bren], I felt that pressure and I also made alibis on myself to make me feel pressured,” he shared.
He further elaborated that his team feels the same way as they thrive when under pressure.
“When we feel pressure on our upcoming matches, I feel we get more motivated because we all want to get a championship title this season,” Escalera expressed.
He added how pressure serves as the catalyst for his motivation to win, expressing that when he feels relaxed, there’s a risk of complacency creeping in, making the prospect of losing seem acceptable.
“When I’m not under pressure, I start to think that it’s ok to lose. When that happens, I usually stop doing my best which is why I always prefer being under pressure,” the esteemed roamer stated.
