The powerhouse team of Indonesia, ONIC Esports, announced that it shall skip the upcoming Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Invitational (MPLI) 2023. The title holder was meant to defend its championship in the invitational event, but decided to withdraw from the tournament. According to the esports organization, the team is more focused on providing its players with enough time to rest and make preparations for the upcoming M5 World Championship. ONIC Esports also apologized to the fans who were eagerly waiting for the team to defend its title in the MPLI 2023.
ONIC Esports forgoes MPLI 2023 title defense in pursuit of M5 World Championship Glory
Through the official Instagram post on 17th October, ONIC Esports announced that it shall not participate in the upcoming MPL Invitational 2023.
“After internal discussions with our players and coaching team, and considering several factors, it is unfortunate that the timing does not align with our Q4 schedule, which was planned months in advance of the season’s commencement. Additionally, we must take into account our players’ condition after the series of tournaments and their need for rest. Therefore, ONIC Esports has decided to withdraw from participating in MPL Invitational 2023.” captioned the post.
ONIC Esports is the reigning champion of MPLI 2023. However, considering the team has decided to withdraw from the tournament, the throne is open for a new team to win this year’s championship title.
The esports organization ended its statement by asking fans to support the rest of the Indonesian teams that are competing in the MPL Invitational 2023.
“Nonetheless, we encourage our fans and the entire Indonesian MLBB Esports community to continue supporting all Indonesian Esports teams that will be participating in MPL Invitational 2023 and to bolster Indonesia’s presence in esports, contributing to further international success,” the post captioned.
With ONIC Esports absent in the MPLI 2023, it will be interesting to see who will rise to the occasion and seize the opportunity to claim the coveted championship title in their absence.
