Today Is Jim Ryan's Last Day As PlayStation CEO

Jim Ryan’s final day as PlayStation CEO is here as he is set to retire from the company after 30 years.

His retirement was first announced in September 2023.

“I’ve relished the opportunity to have a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and incredible partners,” Ryan said at the time of the announcement. “But I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America.

“I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE. I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly sensitive and supportive leader.”

Ryan had been PlayStation CEO since 2019 after taking over for John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera. Prior to being CEO he held numerous senior positions such as executive vice president and COO within Sony.

Starting Monday, April 1, Sony president, COO and CFO Hiroki Titoki will take over as PlayStation CEO on an interim basis.

There is no timetable for when Sony plans to name a permanent CEO of PlayStation.
